Frequently Asked Questions

Everyone has their own reasons for choosing therapy. Some people seek therapy because they find themselves feeling stuck in life, or in relationships. Others are struggling with feelings of depression or anxiety. The blues, communication issues, significant life changes, unresolved childhood issues, grief & loss, spiritual conflicts, stress, relationship problems, all of these are reasons individuals choose to participate in therapy. You do not have to face your difficulties alone. Therapy can be a valuable resource in times of difficulty.
Everyone’s therapy experience is different because each session is tailored toward specific issues and therapeutic goals. A typical therapy session is 50-minutes, in which you and your therapist will spend time discussing your primary concerns and life issues. It is most common to schedule weekly sessions. Therapy can be long-term or short-term depending on your issues and goals. To get the most from your therapy experience, it is important to work on the skills and issues discussed in therapy sessions. It is important for you to be an active participant in and out of sessions for your therapy to be most effective.
Generally I will tell no one what you tell me. It is your right that our sessions and my records about you be kept private. In all but a few rare situations, your confidentiality is protected by state law and the rules of my profession. North Carolina state law requires me to inform you that in certain cases your confidentiality is not protected, and your information may be disclosed to the appropriate authorities/agencies. These cases are:

If I have reason to believe that you may harm yourself or others,
If I have reason to believe that you are involved in or have knowledge of abuse or neglect of a child; or abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a person who is elderly or has a disability, or
If I am ordered to disclose by state or federal courts.
Additionally, I may disclose information if you sign a release form granting permission to designated third parties to receive information that you request me to share.

My educational training and background allows me to offer Christian counseling. While my beliefs serve to shape and influence the way that I view pain and healing, I work with people of all faiths and respect the beliefs of each individual. I will not impose my beliefs on anyone, nor will I reduce all the issues treated to spiritual problems. I do, however, consider the spiritual part of life as essential as the mental, social and physical parts. For clients who desire, I integrate faith principles, Scripture and prayer into the counseling sessions.
Counseling services are provided at rates consistent with rates for professional counselors in the area. Cash, check, and major credit cards are accepted for payment. Payment in full is expected at time of service unless prior arrangements were made. There is a $30 service charge on all checks returned for insufficient funds. MHCRS also has a limited number of Medicaid slots available.

Effective June 1, 2014 we are an in-network provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield NC. We are out-of-network provider for other insurance companies.  If you have sufficient out-of-network coverage, you may obtain reimbursement from your insurance carrier. This could significantly reduce your therapy cost per session. I can provide you with a form for you to submit to your insurer for reimbursement. If you choose to use your insurance, please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:

Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
Do they include out-of-network providers?
What is my deductible and has it been met?
How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover
Is approval required from my primary care physician?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

MHCRS incorporates Outcomes Based Psychotherapy in their treatment. A growing body of research suggests that routine and frequent use of self report questionnaires combined with feedback from the patient is associated with better treatment outcomes. Information from the questionnaires help the therapist and client monitor improvement and make adjustments in the treatment plan as necessary. For this reason, you may be asked to complete a brief questionnaire as part of your treatment. Please respond as honestly as possible because this will help your therapist evaluate if the treatment is effective for you and make changes as necessary.
